Matthew 6: 19-21 | King James Audio Bible | KJV | King James Version

‘Thou shalt not steal.’

The commandment forbids taking what rightfully belongs to someone else without their permission or through dishonest means. Stealing includes actions such as theft, robbery, fraud or any form of dishonest acquisition. God’s commandment promotes fairness, justice and the well-being of society. It recognizes inherent value and dignity of every individual, and tells us to treat others with honesty, integrity, and respect.

Ten Commandments In The Light Of Jesus Christ | Meditations On The Love Of Jesus Christ

Jesus’ teachings often challenged the worldly values and materialistic mindset prevalent in society. Jesus emphasized the importance of prioritizing eternal treasures over earthly possessions. One notable interaction occurred when a rich young ruler approached Jesus and asked what he must do to inherit eternal life (Mark 10:17-22, KJV).

In response, Jesus told him to sell all his possessions, give the proceeds to the poor, and follow him. This encounter highlights Jesus’ call to let go of the love of worldly wealth and to embrace a selfless and generous lifestyle. While the rich young ruler struggled with this command, Jesus used it as an opportunity to teach the disciples about the challenges of materialism and the rewards of sacrificial living.

Furthermore, Jesus highlighted the significance of giving to the poor in the parable of the sheep and goats (Matthew 25:31-46, KJV). In this passage, Jesus speaks of the final judgment, where he separates the righteous from the unrighteous based on their acts of kindness and compassion towards those in need. Jesus emphasizes that when we care for the hungry, thirsty, naked, and marginalized, we are serving him.

These moments from Jesus’ ministry remind us that our possessions are not meant to be hoarded or used solely for personal gain. Rather, they are to be seen as resources entrusted to us by God, to be stewarded for the betterment of others and the advancement of God’s kingdom.

While not everyone is called to sell all their possessions, Jesus’ teachings encourage us to have open hands and a generous spirit. It reminds us to be attentive to the needs of the poor and marginalized, offering our resources, time, and talents in service to them. Our possessions should never become a stumbling block to loving and caring for our fellow human beings.

‘Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.’ (Matthew 6:19-20, KJV)

  • Millennium | Jesus | Second Coming | Rapture | Oliver Peers

In Christian tradition, the Millennium refers to a thousand-year period of peace and prosperity that is believed to follow the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. This belief is based on a passage from the book of Revelation in the New Testament: ‘And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years’ (Revelation 20:4) [ … ]

  • Audio Bible | The Boy-Child Jesus In The Temple

The infancy narratives of Jesus are more than mere history. Luke’s accounts of Jesus’ infancy constitute a theological and Christological prologue to his Gospel. Many great truths of the Gospels are here prefigured. We may think of the Jesus’ infancy narratives given to us in Luke as a beautiful gateway, through which we enter to encounter the Gospels as a whole. This would certainly be appropriate to the spirit of our celebrations of Christmas, when we rejoice that God has answered our calls to be with us, as we celebrate the great mystery of the Incarnation [ … ]

  • Jesus And A Boy | Confession Of Sin | Forgiveness | Love In Jesus

Saint Augustine’s sermon offers a profound meditation on Psalm 51 (‘Miserere mei, Deus’), a penitential psalm attributed to King David after his fall into sin with Bathsheba. In the early Church, Psalm 51 was foundational in catechesis on repentance and featured prominently in the liturgy, especially during Lent. It was often recited or sung by those preparing for baptism or undergoing public penance. By the time Augustine preached this sermon in the late 4th or early 5th century, the Church had already begun to develop a rich theology of repentance that would eventually blossom into the sacrament of confession. Augustine himself was a pivotal figure in shaping the Church’s understanding of the inner dimensions of conversion—a turning not just of actions, but of the heart and will [ … ]
