Daniel 3: 24-28| King James Audio Bible | Powerful Prayer

‘Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire. And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them. Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.’ (Daniel 3:24-28, KJV)

Explanation Of Context | Love Revealed By Jesus

In this account, King Nebuchadnezzar ordered Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, three faithful Hebrews, to be thrown into a fiery furnace as punishment for refusing to bow down to the golden idol he had erected. Miraculously, when the three were thrown into the furnace, the king witnessed a fourth person walking with them, whom he described as being like the Son of God. The men remained unharmed by the flames, and Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged the power of the God of Israel, recognizing that an angel had delivered the three Hebrews from the fiery ordeal.

Reflection – God’s Faithfulness In Times Of Persecution | Meditations On The Love Of Jesus Christ

The story of the angel and the three Hebrews in the fiery furnace speaks of God’s faithfulness and protection for those who remain steadfast in their devotion to Him, even in the face of persecution and adversity. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego chose to remain faithful to the one true God and refused to bow down to an idol, despite the grave consequences.

The presence of the fourth person in the furnace, whom Nebuchadnezzar described as being like the Son of God, signifies God’s intimate involvement and protection in the midst of trials. This account assures us that God does not abandon His faithful servants when they face challenges; instead, He walks with us through the fire, shielding us from harm.

In our lives, we may encounter trials, opposition, or even persecution for standing firm in our faith. Yet, this story encourages us to trust that God is with us, providing strength, courage, and protection as we face the flames. Just as He delivered the three Hebrews from the fiery furnace, God is our ever-present help in times of trouble.

Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, we desire to remain faithful to you, even when faced with challenges and opposition. Grant us unwavering faith, courage, and determination to hold fast to your truth, regardless of consequences.

We acknowledge that you are the Son of God, our Saviour and Redeemer, and that your presence in our lives makes all the difference. May your Spirit empower us to endure and overcome the fires of life, knowing that you are with us every step of the way.

Thank you for your faithfulness, even when we face persecution for your name’s sake. May we find strength in your promises and assurance in your protection, knowing that you are the God who delivers and saves.

We lift our hearts in praise and worship to you, our loving and mighty Saviour.

Today’s Gospel verses invite us once more to consider the true identity of Jesus. This scene is filled both with a sense of preconceptions and expectations, and with the over-riding knowledge of the new, which is the truth of Jesus. Additionally, we are asked by Jesus to declare the truth of our knowledge of who Jesus is. We are invited by Jesus to confess our Christian faith [ … ]

To cause scandal is to drive other people away from the path of faith, to cause another person to sin, to withdraw from a life of grace, to cease to believe in redemption in Jesus Christ. This is a terrible sin, and we know that it does not stop there. The evil spreads, and soon it is common practice to denigrate Christianity. We think of the millions upon millions of little ones – and this in ‘Christian countries’ – who have never been introduced to Jesus, and of all the attendant troubles they experience because their spiritual lives have not been fostered. The signs of this spiritual neglect are endemic, while when many people speak against Christianity they do not even know what it is that they are objecting to; they have become in so little time so far removed from what could have been their inheritance, the living faith [ … ]
