Genesis 18:1-15 | King James Audio Bible | Powerful Prayer

‘And the LORD appeared unto him [Abraham] in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground, And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age, and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.’ (Genesis 18:1-15, KJV)

Explanation of Context | Angelic Announcements To Sarah And Abraham | Love Revealed By Jesus Christ

In this passage, the Lord appeared to Abraham in the plains of Mamre in the form of three men. Recognizing their divine nature, Abraham warmly welcomed them into his home and showed great hospitality. The Lord informed Abraham that He would soon return to him, and shared the news that Sarah, Abraham’s elderly wife, would conceive and bear a son. Sarah, who overheard the announcement from inside the tent, laughed in disbelief, considering her advanced age. The Lord gently confronted her doubts and affirmed that nothing is impossible for Him.

Reflection – Trusting God’s Promises Beyond Human Understanding | Meditations On The Love Of Jesus Christ

The angelic announcement to Sarah and Abraham reminds us of God’s faithfulness to His promises, even when circumstances seem impossible or beyond human understanding. Despite their old age, the Lord assured Abraham and Sarah that they would become parents of a son. Though Sarah initially laughed in doubt, God’s response affirmed His ability to fulfil His word. God reminds us that His power transcends human limitations.

In our lives, we face situations that appear insurmountable, leading us to doubt God’s promises. However, this passage encourages us to trust in God’s sovereignty and acknowledge that nothing is too difficult for Him. God’s plans and timings are perfect, and God remains faithful to fulfil what He has spoken.

When God’s promises seem improbable, let not doubt consume us. As Sarah conceived and bore a son, God’s promises will come to fruition in our lives.

Powerful Prayer to Jesus | Love Revealed By Jesus Christ

Dear Jesus,

In doubt and uncertainty, we come to you. You sent the angel to announce the miraculous birth of Isaac to Sarah and Abraham. We trust your good plans for each of us.

When doubt and disbelief creep into our hearts, strengthen our faith and trust in your promises. May we find hope and assurance in your unfailing love and power to bring about what you have spoken.

Like Sarah, we may struggle to understand how your promises can come to pass in our lives. Grant us the grace to surrender our doubts to you, knowing that your wisdom surpasses our understanding.

Teach us to be patient and steadfast in waiting for your perfect timing. Just as you fulfilled your promise to Sarah and Abraham, we believe that your word will be accomplished in our lives as well.

Thank You, Jesus.

In your precious name, I pray.

Amen.

The parable of the workers in the vineyard is addressed especially to the Jewish people, who were called long ago by God to be his people. Now, through the course of the day, new labourers are hired to go into the vineyard. These are the Gentiles, non-Jewish people, who are called now to become part of the new people of God [ … ]

Pope Saint Leo the Great’s reflection on the Passion of Christ invites us to fix our gaze on the crucified Jesus, not only as an act of devotion but as an essential means of recognizing our own humanity in Jesus. Pope Saint Leo emphasizes that the suffering and death of Christ are not distant historical events but realities that intimately concern every believer. True reverence for the Passion, he insists, requires an interior transformation, where we experience in our hearts the effects of Christ’s death and resurrection [ … ]

  • Holy Mass | Ash Wednesday | Oliver Peers

Duly, we are ashed. Communion follows. Adedokun, serving, puts it all together, takes it all apart. Our thoughts rest, solemn, as we aren’t asked to sing our way out of it. It is one of the good times. Quietly, just sitting like that, it’s pretty good. Dry. All careful-minded. It seems they must see we are taking it the way it is meant to be – solemnly [ … ]
