Matthew’s Gospel 1:18-25 King James Audio Bible | Audio Bible KJV | King James Version

For centuries, Christians have turned to Saint Joseph, earthly father of Jesus Christ, in prayer and devotion for intercession, seeking Saint Joseph’ guidance, protection, and assistance in our spiritual lives. The Bible attests to the qualities of Saint Joseph that Christians admire and revere, including his deep faith, humility, and holiness.

The Gospel of Matthew tells us of the moment when Saint Joseph discovered that Mary, his betrothed, was pregnant. At first, Saint Joseph planned to divorce her quietly, but an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and revealed the truth of Mary’s pregnancy. In response, Saint Joseph showed great faith and obedience, taking Mary into his home and raising Jesus as his own son. Matthew 1:20-21 reads:

‘But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.’

Throughout history, Christians have admired and revered Saint Joseph for his devotion to God and his steadfastness in the face of uncertainty. The early Christian writer Origen wrote of Saint Joseph, ‘The just man was chosen by God to be the guardian of His most precious treasures, namely His Son and His spouse.’ (Homilies on St. Luke) In the Middle Ages, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux praised Saint Joseph for his humility, saying, ‘It was not in vain that this just man was chosen to be the spouse of Mary, to be the foster-father of Jesus, and to be the patron of the universal Church.’ (Sermon 2 on the Nativity of the Lord)

Today, many Christians continue to turn to Saint Joseph in prayer and devotion, seeking his intercession for our needs and intentions. Pope Francis has spoken of his own devotion to Saint Joseph, saying, ‘In my life, I have always felt the protection of Saint Joseph, and I have learned to love him very much.’ (Homily, March 19, 2013)

Saint Joseph’s role as a model of faith and humility is further highlighted in the Gospel of Luke, where he and Mary take the infant Jesus to the Temple to present Jesus to the Lord. There, they meet the prophet Simeon, who blesses them and prophesies about the child’s future. Luke 2:29-32 reads:

‘Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.’

Simeon’s words affirm the significance of Jesus’ birth, and by extension, the role that Saint Joseph played in fulfilling God’s plan for salvation. It is in this spirit that many Christians believe that Saint Joseph is a powerful intercessor, and that praying to Saint Joseph can bring blessings and favours from God.

Saint Joseph’s faithfulness and devotion can be seen in the Flight into Egypt, when he and Mary flee with the infant Jesus to escape Herod’s murderous decree. This event is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, which reads:

‘And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.’ (Matthew 2:13)

Saint Joseph’s willingness to follow the Lord’s guidance, even in the face of danger and uncertainty, is a testament to his faith and trust in God. It is this unwavering devotion that has made him a beloved figure in the Christian tradition, and a source of inspiration for many.

In addition to his role as a model of faith and devotion, Saint Joseph is also revered for his humble service to Jesus and Mary. As the protector and provider for the Holy Family, Saint Joseph set an example for Christians of selfless love and sacrifice. As Pope John Paul II wrote in his apostolic exhortation Redemptoris Custos (Guardian of the Redeemer), ‘Saint Joseph was called by God to serve the person and mission of Jesus directly through the exercise of his fatherhood.’ (Paragraph 8)

In times of uncertainty and difficulty, Saint Joseph can be a source of comfort and inspiration for Christians. As Pope Pius XII wrote in his encyclical, On Devotion To Saint Joseph, Saint Joseph ‘is the model of those humble ones that Christianity raises up to great destinies.’ (Paragraph 7) Through Saint Joseph’ intercession, may we come to know and love Jesus Christ more deeply in our lives.

Prayers To Saint Joseph | Love Revealed By Jesus Christ | Prayer For Faith

Saint Joseph’s faith is an inspiration to Christians around the world. He had an unwavering trust in God, even when the circumstances of his life were uncertain and challenging. In the Gospel of Matthew, we see Saint Joseph’s faith in action when he accepts the message from the angel that Mary’s child was conceived by the Holy Spirit. His faith was not just an intellectual belief, but a deep-seated conviction that sustained him throughout his life. As we pray for faith, we can look to Saint Joseph as a model of perseverance and devotion, who trusted in God’s plan even when it was difficult and uncertain.

Oh Saint Joseph, faithful and just, you placed your trust in God even when the path before you was uncertain and difficult. As the earthly father of Jesus Christ, you knew that God’s plan was greater than your own, and you embraced your role with faith and humility.

We ask for your intercession now, dear Saint Joseph, as we seek to deepen our own faith in God. Help us to trust in His plan for our lives, even when it is difficult or unclear. Give us the strength to persevere through trials and challenges, knowing that God is with us always.

Prayers To Saint Joseph | Love Revealed By Jesus Christ | Prayer For Humility

Saint Joseph’s humility is a testament to his character as a servant of God. As the earthly father of Jesus Christ, he could have been proud and entitled, but instead he accepted his role as a humble caretaker of the Messiah. In the Gospel of Luke, we see Saint Joseph’s humility in his obedience to God’s will. He willingly took on the responsibility of caring for Mary and Jesus, even though it meant putting aside his own desires and plans. As we pray for humility, we can look to Saint Joseph as an example of what it means to be a servant of God, putting aside our own pride and ego to do his will.

Oh Saint Joseph, humble and obedient servant of God, you accepted your role in His plan with grace and humility. As the earthly father of Jesus Christ, you embraced your mission to care for and guide the Son of God with humility and selflessness.

We ask for your intercession now, dear Saint Joseph, as we seek to cultivate these same virtues of humility and obedience in our own lives. Help us to recognize our own limitations and weaknesses, and to trust in God’s wisdom and guidance.

Teach us to be obedient to God’s will, even when it may be difficult or challenging. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Saint Joseph’s purity is an example for Christians of all ages. He remained chaste and faithful to Mary, despite the scandal and shame that could have come with her unexpected pregnancy. In the Gospel of Matthew, we see Saint Joseph’s purity in his decision to divorce Mary quietly, rather than expose her to public shame. However, when the angel appeared to him in a dream and revealed the true nature of Mary’s pregnancy, he put aside his own plans and desires and obeyed God’s will. As we pray for purity, we can look to Saint Joseph as a model of chastity and fidelity, who trusted in God’s plan even when it went against his own desires.

Oh Saint Joseph, chaste and pure spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, you lived a life of virtue and holiness, free from the stain of sin. As the earthly father of Jesus Christ, you modeled for us the importance of purity and chastity in our lives.

We ask for your intercession now, dear Saint Joseph, as we strive to live lives of purity and holiness in a world that often values impurity and immorality. Help us to guard our hearts and minds against the temptations of the flesh, and to seek after God’s will and His plan for our lives.

May your example inspire us to embrace the gift of purity, and to see it as a means of drawing closer to God and to others. Help us to see the beauty and dignity of every person, and to treat them with the respect and honor that they deserve. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

  • Holy Mass | Ash Wednesday | Oliver Peers

Duly, we are ashed. Communion follows. Adedokun, serving, puts it all together, takes it all apart. Our thoughts rest, solemn, as we aren’t asked to sing our way out of it. It is one of the good times. Quietly, just sitting like that, it’s pretty good. Dry. All careful-minded. It seems they must see we are taking it the way it is meant to be – solemnly [ … ]

Christian Art | Life Of Jesus In The Gospels | King James Audio Bible KJV The Gospel Of Saint John 14: 1-7 | King James Audio Bible YouTube: Connection With The Life Of Jesus In The Gospels | King James Audio Bible The Gospels are not just a collection of stories or teachings, but a window into the life of Jesus. By reading and reflecting on the Gospels, we gain a deeper understanding of who Jesus was and what he came to do. As we read the Gospels, we see that Jesus was a man of great compassion and love. Jesus showed mercy to the outcasts and the marginalized, and he offered healing and hope to those who were in need. He also taught with authority, challenging the religious leaders of his day and offering a new way of living based on love and service. But the Gospels are not just a history lesson. They are also an invitation for us to enter into a relationship with Jesus. By reading and meditating on the Gospels, we can come to know Jesus more personally and deeply. We can learn from his example and seek to follow in his footsteps. So we may be encouraged to read the Gospels, perhaps starting with the Gospel of Mark or the Gospel of John, as we read paying attention to how Jesus interacted with others and how he responded to different situations. We may ask ourselves what you can learn from his words and actions, and how we can apply them to our own lives. And as we read, we can allow ourselves to be drawn into a closer relationship with Jesus. There truly is an historical Jesus. May the Gospels be a source of guidance, inspiration, and transformation for us all. How Much In The Gospels Is Historical, And How Much Is Myth, Legend, Trope, Figurative Thinking? It is difficult to say with certainty how much of the Gospels is historical in the modern sense of the word and how much is myth, legend, trope, or figurative thinking. The Gospels were written some years after the events they describe, and they were written from the perspective of the early Christian community. This means that the Gospels may contain a mix of historical facts and interpretation, as well as elements of myth, legend, and figurative thinking. That being said, scholars believe that the Gospels contain a good deal of historical information. For example, the Gospels describe specific places and events, such as the places where Jesus preached and the events of his trial and Crucifixion. These details suggest that the writers of the Gospels had access to historical information and intended to provide an accurate account of what happened. On the other hand, the Gospels also contain elements that are not seen by all as historical, howsoever this goes to the root of the faith, such as the miracles performed by Jesus and the accounts of his resurrection. Some see these as legends or myths that were added to the Gospels to help convey the message of the early Christian community. The question of how much of the Gospels is historical and how much is myth, legend, or figurative thinking is complex. What is important is that we approach the Gospels with an open mind and a willingness to engage with the stories and teachings they contain. We are in the Gospels in conversation with God – and with the many people who have had such faith and conversations – as with the historical Jesus. Why Do The Gospels Say Were People Afraid Of Jesus? There are several reasons why people may have been afraid of Jesus, according to the Gospels. One reason is that Jesus was a powerful and charismatic figure who challenged the religious and political authorities of his time. He spoke out against corruption and injustice, and he called on people to repent and turn to God. This type of behaviour was seen as threatening by those in positions of power, and they may have been afraid of losing their influence or authority. Another reason is that Jesus performed many miracles, such as healing the sick and casting out demons. These miracles were seen as evidence of his divine power, and they may have made people afraid of him. Some people may have been afraid of being healed or possessed by Jesus, while others may have been afraid of what would happen if they did not believe in him. Finally, some people may have been afraid of Jesus because of the prophecies and expectations of the coming of a messiah. The Jews of Jesus’ time were looking for a saviour who would deliver them from oppression and establish a kingdom of God on earth. When Jesus arrived on the scene, he may have been seen as a threat to the status quo, and some people may have been afraid of what he might do. Might The Fear Be Related To The Fear Of God – The Injunction To Fear God? Yes, it is possible that the fear of Jesus mentioned in the Gospels may be related to the fear of God. In the Old Testament, the fear of God is often used to describe a deep reverence and awe for God, as well as a sense of humility and obedience in the face of his greatness. This fear of God is seen as a positive and necessary quality for a faithful believer, and it is often linked to the idea of fearing God’s punishment or judgement. In the New Testament, the fear of God is also mentioned, but it is often portrayed in a more positive light. For example, in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus tells his followers not to be afraid of those who can only kill the body, but to fear God, who can destroy both body and soul (Luke 12:4-5). This suggests that the fear of God is not just about punishment, but about a deep respect for […]

  • Saint Gregory The Great | Meditations | Book Of Job

Some people are so simple that they do not know what uprightness is. Theirs is not the true simplicity of the innocent: they are as far from that as they are far from rising to the virtue of uprightness. As long as they do not know how to guard their steps by walking in uprightness, they can never remain innocent merely by walking in simplicity. This is why Saint Paul warns his disciples I hope that you are also wise in what is good, and innocent of what is bad but also Brothers, you are not to be childish in your outlook, though you can be babies as far as wickedness is concerned. Thus Christ our Truth enjoins his disciples with the words Be cunning as serpents and yet as harmless as doves. In giving them this admonition, he had to join the two together, so that both the simplicity of the dove might be instructed by the craftiness of the serpent, and the craftiness of the serpent might be attempered by the simplicity of the dove [ … ]
